Keeping an eye on those pet medical costs

As the cost of living rises, you want to provide the best for your pet but also watch those pennies. Here's our tips for keeping an eye on your pet medical care costs.

Vet schemes and online prescriptions

Some vets offer payment schemes or clubs to help spread the cost over the year. Paying small amounts every month might be easier to manage and allows you to control your finances. Ask at your local practice about options they offer.

Did you know it can be cheaper to buy pet medication online? Your vet might write you a prescription for any repeat meds (for a small fee) and you can order online which is usually much cheaper. It is important to choose a reputable UK-based company to order from though.

Prevention is better than cure

For some things you need to keep long-sighted. Keep up with your quality flea and worm treatment as we have seen how devastating it can be for animals if these basics are ignored. Fighting back from a flea infestation takes months of care and expense much higher than preventing it in the first place. Plus, the pain these critters bring to your loved pet is just awful.

Keep it covered

Insurance will give you peace of mind that any surprise vet bills will be covered. You can shop around, but changing insurance company can lose benefits for pre-existing conditions so choose carefully. It is always worth calling your current insurance company to see if they can improve your quote.
